2K Games Isn’t Done With Gearbox Despite Merger

2K Games Plans to Continue Gearbox Relationship

Gearbox Entertainment recently merged with the Embracer Group after a $1.3 billion deal, but 2K Games is far from done with the company. According to a spokesperson from the company, 2K Games intends to continue having a great relationship with the Borderlands developer. 2K Games only has positive things to say about the developers, and it looks like Embracer Group won’t be blocking some relationship between the two parties. Borderlands 3 is available right now for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, Google Stadia, PC, and Mac.

“As the proud publisher of the Borderlands franchise, we are happy for our partners at Gearbox and this exciting new chapter for their organization. The merger does not change 2K’s relationship with Gearbox nor our role as the publisher for the Borderlands IP or any other projects we are currently working on with the studio,” said a 2K Games spokesperson. “Continuing our long-term partnership with this incredibly talented team and delivering many more exciting entertainment experiences to gaming fans around the world.”

While 2K Games was previously the publisher behind the Borderlands titles, it looks like the Embracer Group will be the official publisher moving forward, but that won’t stop 2K from keeping some sort of relationship with Gearbox. While the statement discusses other projects that the studio is currently working on, 2K Games didn’t give fans of the studio an idea of what to expect from the future of Gearbox.
