We here at COG have had the opportunity to take quite a few headsets for a spin, well at least a good listen, especially when it comes to the world of console gaming. Gaming headsets are an important part of a gamers life given the fact that so much work goes into the audio of a videogame that gamers need, and demand, clear sound, great bass, and even some good directional effects. From solid stereo sound to full 7.1 Surround Sound, many headsets have many options to satisfy potential buyers. Of course keeping such sounds of guns firing, car screeching, grenades exploding, crowds cheering, and any other game related sound effect from those who don’t want to hear them is a key feature as well.
As we enter the holiday rush of gaming, we thought it might be prudent to put together an Xbox One Gaming Headsets “recommended list”.  This includes headsets that we have reviewed, and even mention of a few that we haven’t reviewed, all in the spirit of getting the word out there for those that might be buying a headset for themselves, or for some lucky Xbox One gamer in their life.
Now we will be the first to admit that this list is far from exhaustive, as there are variants on some headsets (e.g. themed for a specific game) and there are older headsets that are out there too, but we have tried to put together a list of relevant headsets that people may just want to consider when thinking about a new Xbox One headset purchase.
So without further ado, check out the list below of the headset that we did review:
Xbox One Stereo Headset & Adapter – MSRP: $79.99 (USD)
- Stereo Only
- Stereo Headset Adapter Included
- Our Score: 80
What we said:
Overall Microsoft did a fairly good job at designing and producing a headset for their marquee console. The price of $79.99 is very appealing when you realize you’re getting both a new headset and the headset adapter all in one box. The build quality is solid for the price, it is surprisingly comfortable when gaming for long sessions, the sound quality is pretty good even with the minor issues noted [in the review], and the voice chat/mixing features are simple and effective. Really, how can you go wrong when you consider the whole package? You can’t.

Skullcandy SLYR Xbox One – MSRP $99.99 (USD & Cdn)
- Stereo Sound
- Skullcandy Headphone Adapter
- Boom Microphone (Not Detachable)
- Our Score: 80
What we said:
Just like some of Skullcandy’s other console gaming headsets on the market, the SLYR Gaming Headset for Xbox One is excellent value for the buck. At around $100 you won’t find many other headsets in this price range for your Xbox One that will beat it in terms of sound quality, comfort, and look. It’s unfortunate I cannot use this headset for any other electronic devices but it is hard to punish a product that was never intended to be played with anything other than your Xbox One. At the end of the day, it’s hard not to recommend Skullcandy’s SLYR Xbox One headset as the bass booms and the rich stereo sound shines through.

Polk 4 Shot Xbox One Gaming Headset – MSRP $129.95 (USD)
- Stereo Only
- Stereo Headset Adapter Included
- Our Score: 82
What we said:
The addition of a new HD Microphone and the constant controller updates (which assist in improving sound in headsets overall) since this headset was initially released allows the 4 Shot to really shine and helped heighten my enjoyment of it. Although the MSRP is $129.95, it has been as low as $100 on Amazon. If you’re considering a new headset for your Xbox One and phone/tablet music listening, take a close look at Polk’s 4 Shot Xbox One Gaming Headset as it deserves your scrutiny.

Turtle Beach Stealth 500x – MSRP $229.95 (USD)
- DTS Surround Sound
- Wireless Base
- No Cables Needed for Headset
- Our Score: 90
What we said:
In the end there is not much left to say; the Stealth 500x excel at what is most important, sound. The four surround sound settings and separate modes within each one truly add to the listening experience. As an added bonus the headset doesn’t look bad at all and it is comfortable to wear during gaming marathons.  Turtle Beach has done an outstanding job cutting the need for any cords for Xbox One owners who want wireless headset, and even given the somewhat premium price, the Stealth 500x is very much worth every penny. Trust me, once you put on these headphones on you’ll quickly forget about how you use to need to tether to your Xbox One controller [to your headset] and you’ll just enjoy the sound while gaming, watching a movie, or even listening to music.

Turtle Beach XO One Stereo Headset – MSRP $87.95 (USD)
- Stereo Headset
- Headset Adapter Included
- Score: 83
What we said:
Turtle Beach has a history of making headphones that sound good, and this carries over to the XO One Stereo Headset. They look good, but most importantly they sound good. If you are looking for an entry level set of headphones with the added features you wouldn’t expect at this price, including voice monitoring and bass boost, you definitely cannot go wrong with these headphones, as they are a great bang for the buck.

Steelseries Siberia X300 – MSRP $129.99
- Stereo Sound
- Steelseries Chat Adapter
- Our Score: 81
What we said:
If you’re looking for a basic headset that is comfortable, sounds great in games, and doesn’t need a lot of flashy features to get the job done, give the Siberia P and/or X300 series a try. They provide a quality experience for a reasonable price, and that fact bodes very well for Steelseries’ expansion into the console market.

Astro A50 Wireless Headset: Xbox One Edition – MSRP $300.00 (USD)
- Dolby Surround Sound
- Wireless Base
- Astro Chat Adapter Included
- Our Score: 85
What we said:
Overall, the Astro A50 Wireless Headset Xbox Edition is a darn good headset. Its battery life is decent, it’s solidly built, comfy to wear, and it really does sound good and that is what counts. Sure, the mic-monitoring is questionable and there are not as many EQ modes as some of its competitors, but the headset does what Astro wants it to do, immerse the user in quality sound. Astro’s heritage for quality products is once again proven with the A50s Xbox Edition, but it’s almost time for them to release a new flagship product as other companies have caught up with them.
