Control Publisher 505 Games Revealed the Epic Games Exclusivity Incentive
Analyst Daniel Ahmad recently leaked the amount of money 505 Games, the publishers of Control, received in exchange for being an Epic Games Store Exclusive. According to parent company Digital Bros’ financial report which lead up to the release of Control, the company received $10.5 million to be an exclusive title for the Epic Games Store. Control is available now on PC, Xbox One and PS4.
After getting 55% of the advance money, a quarter of the games’ development cost of 20 to 30 million euros, 505 Games were immediately able to recoup the cost of development. Despite the large advance to make the game exclusive, one of the conditions for Epic Games is that they keep the money from the sales of Control until it has delivered the $10.5 million. The remaining 45% of the cash advance likely went to developer Remedy Entertainment to keep the morale of the team who made Control high.
This $10.5 million sum doesn’t include sales of the game or other platforms that it released on, it’s strictly the amount received for PC exclusivity to the Epic Games Store. It’s likely that Control will become a profitable title after recouping a quarter of Remedy’s development costs for it prior to the sales figures. We’re surprised at the size of the cash advance 505 Games received but wouldn’t be too shocked if Remedy Entertainment’s Control sells $10.5 million worth of copies.
