The Borderlands Show: Episode 1 – Bloody Harvest Preview

Recapping the Juicy Bits

Today was the debut of The Borderlands Show. As entertaining as it would be, it is not a cartoon of all your favourite Vault Hunters in Looney Tunes-style sketches. It is actually more like a talkshow hosted by Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller and Fran Mirabella. While this is The Borderlands Show: Episode 1, it appears to follow a bit of a formula or schedule. Greg and Fran talk about what they’ve been doing in Borderlands 3, what they like about it and what they think should be improved upon, and then they have a guest from developer Gearbox to talk about the future.

The Borderlands Show: Episode 1

Greg and Fran make it clear that while they are doing this show because of their love for Borderlands, they are not “corporate mouthpieces” for the game; they don’t suck up to the creators. That being said, they really express their love for Borderlands 3, but they both make it a point to say its not their “game of the year”. Still, they talk about what the game really nails for them, and what they want to be different. Halfway through the show, they introduced their guest this month Paul Sage, creative director of Borderlands 3.

If you have no interest in the hosts from Kinda Funny, Paul Sage joins the show at about the 1 hour mark of the video. Jokingly, Greg charges into the interview asking, “When are you going to fix this?” The three talk about performance issues that players will inevitably face. Not being able to get into specific issues, Paul Sage talks about the process of pushing out updates and fixes, getting the right team to work on them, and how long players can expect to wait. One of their first “preview” subjects they tackled was DLC. Bloody Harvest, the Halloween-themed content update will be free; “included in the price of your purchase” as Sage puts it. There will be new missions, challenges, enemies, equipment, and loot. Another major piece of information regarding the “events” like Bloody Harvest: They are Limited Time Events. These events are missable.

A Q&A segment followed where Sage took questions from fans. One of which, asked if there will be more Vault Hunters released. “Probably not.” The reason is that the base Vault Hunters were designed to have multiple playstyles and such variety within the four. Another reason is because players tend to pick one character and, generally speaking, not deviate or change characters. You can watch the whole episode on the Borderlands Twitch channel.
