Another Big Reveal for Borderlands 4
Fans waiting for Borderlands 4 on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 now have a clearer picture of what to expect. Since its announcement, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford and the development team have shared several updates. And the latest information comes directly from the game’s official FAQ, updated earlier this month.

One of the biggest details is that the Switch 2 version will not feature split-screen gameplay. While this means players cannot share the same device for local co-op, the FAQ emphasizes that the Nintendo release will still deliver the same exciting Borderlands 4 experience as other platforms, with one major advantage: full crossplay. Switch 2 players will be able to team up online with friends from other platforms. This includes Epic Games Store, Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, ensuring a wide pool of co-op partners.
This news follows last month’s performance update, which confirmed the Switch 2 version will run at mostly 30 frames per second rather than the 60fps seen on other platforms. While it is a step down in framerate, Gearbox says the core gameplay experience will remain intact.
Another important note for physical collectors is that the Switch 2 edition will require a download, suggesting it will ship as a Game Key Card rather than a full cartridge. Players will need an internet connection to complete the installation before jumping in.
Borderlands 4 launches on Nintendo’s new hybrid console on 3 October 2025, alongside its release on other major platforms. While Switch 2 owners will miss out on couch co-op, the promise of crossplay and portable looter shooter action might make this version an appealing choice for those ready to return to the chaotic world of Pandora.
