Revenue for The Witcher 3 is Up 26% Compared to Last Year
CD Projekt Red recently revealed that the Witcher 3 has made approximately $54 million USD during the first half of 2019, a 26% increase over 2018. This continued success shows CD Projekt Red that fans typically prefer quality over quantity and gives the developer an idea of the longevity Cypunk 2077’s success may receive as well. The announcement also came with CD Projekt Red officially becoming a dual-franchise studio which implies they’ll begin working on multiple projects at the same, breaking away from their tradition of focusing on one title at a time.
Despite the revenue for the Witcher 3 seeing continued success, net income for the company is relatively flat due to the development costs of Cyberpunk 2077 which stars the increasingly relevant Keanu Reeves. CD Projekt Red expects the Witcher 3 to see continued success and Cyberpunk 2077 to receive a warm welcome due to the fact that top-quality games age well if developers put the work into them. We believe the sentiment of making top-quality games that will stand the test of time is an admirable pursuit for any developer or publisher to seek.
“The migration towards a dual-franchise model supported by several independent product lines also permits optimization of manufacturing and financial activities, mitigates important risk factors and makes it easier for company employees to seek professional fulfillment,” said CD Projekt Red CFO Piotr Nielubowicz after bragging about the Witcher 3’s success. With the Witcher 3 continuing to see longevity in 2019, it’ll be interesting to see how well it sells on the Nintendo Switch when it releases there on October 15th. CD Projekt Red’s next major installment, Cyberpunk 2077 will be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC on April 16th, 2020.
Could the announcement of being a dual-franchise developer mean that CD Projekt Red is working on the next Witcher? Do you think the second game they’re working on alongside Cyberpunk 2077 will be a new IP? Let us know in the comments below!
