There Are Still Plenty of Innocents to Slaughter, Don’t Worry. Just No Children
Cyberpunk 2077 takes place in the dystopian metropolis of Night City. Roaming the streets are a ton of different people looking for a fight. Among the many fight-ravenous people are gang members, cops and corporate snobs. Unfortunately, standing proudly above the rest, in the realm of immortality, are the children of Night City… and story-related NPCs.
CD Projekt Red recently took to Reddit in order to answer questions relating to the level of violent shenanigans available. CD Projekt Red writes “You won’t be able to attack children or NPCs connected with the plot,” reads the reply, “but other than that you can be aggressive towards most people you meet.”
In a separate email to PC Gamer, CD Projekt Red also confirms there are locations where aggressive behavior has additional repercussions. For example, if you provoke a cop in the police-controlled territory then numerous other officers will enter the scrum.
Many games take this approach in order to retain some semblance of morality. The children of Skyrim are invincible, although there are mods that change this. It definitely takes a certain type of person to go out of their way to slaughter children. I mean, everyone creates a character with the sole purpose of murdering everyone – that’s normal. But kids?
Thankfully, Cyberpunk 2077 does not have modding support. The kids of Night City are safe from the ravenous claws of blood-thirsty murderers… for now. There is currently three Cyberpunk 2077s underway, so who knows what the future holds. Maybe, one day, the children will die too.
