Cyberpunk 2077 has seen a long and steady evolution since its troubled debut. CD Projekt spent years polishing systems, improving performance, and expanding features. These efforts eventually led to Phantom Liberty, a major turning point that introduced new characters, new story arcs, and renewed energy for the entire experience. Post-launch updates continued to reshape the game, enriching combat, progression, and exploration. A detailed photo mode and broad gameplay refinements helped the title gain new momentum and a strong reputation.
The studio’s transformation behind the scenes mirrored the game’s own recovery. Development teams reorganized, and new plans were formed for the future of the Cyberpunk universe. Work on Cyberpunk 2 is underway across CD Projekt’s Warsaw, Vancouver, and Boston offices. The company recently confirmed that 135 people are now working on it, while the wider organization focuses mostly on The Witcher 4. CD Projekt plans to grow the Cyberpunk 2 team to more than 300 developers by 2027. Alongside this project, it is also developing a multiplayer Witcher experience, a new original IP codename Hadar, a remake of the original Witcher, and preparing another game based on its own catalog.
