Blizzard Making Big Announcements at BlizzCon

Blizzard Planning Big Announcements for BlizzCon

With their community polarized, Blizzard has several big announcements planned for Blizzcon in November according to Kotaku’s Jason Schrier who made shared the information on Twitter. Gamers are expecting more information on Overwatch 2, Diablo 4 and Diablo Immortal as well as a new World of Warcraft Expansion and the still anticipated release of Warcraft 3 Remastered. BlizzCon takes place on November 1st & 2nd and Blizzard will have to come prepared for backlash with #boycottblizzard trending going into the event. The event takes place at the Anaheim Convention Center in California.

Activision Blizzard

“Indecently, Blizzard is planning on a lot of big announcements for this year’s BlizzCon (November 1) in part to make up for the PR blowup of last year,” said Jason Schrier. “This new debacle will no doubt overshadow that.” Jason Schrier is referring to the reaction to the disappointment over Diablo Immortal last year and the latest debacle is how the company reacted to blitzchung’s statement following his Hearthstone Grandmasters tournament victory. There’s no doubt that a portion of the community will be upset with Activision Blizzard regardless of what they reveal at BlizzCon.

Jason Schrier also spoke to Blizzard staff over the blitzchung controversy and they’re apparently quite divided. “One told me the company’s thinking was that they can’t let anyone hijack a broadcast for any political message, be it pro-Hong Kong or pro-Trump or whatever else. Of course, it’s hard to believe they didn’t realize how this would come off.” After how Blizzard reacted to the disappointment in Diablo Immortal, it wouldn’t be too surprising that they didn’t think about the potential backlash ahead of time. The company has already shown a level of PR tone deafness.
