3. NHL 23 – October 14
There are certain titles that are impossible to ignore when writing articles like The Top 5 Video Games Arriving in October 2022. It can be tough to balance cult love with expected sales, and there’s no doubt that all the major sports titles sell huge. The NHL series has not been very good for the past few releases though. Hopefully NHL 23 can lead to higher series standards, but EA isn’t promising many changes. It is still the major triple-A hockey video game, and, for that, it has a guaranteed spot in Top 5 Video Games Arriving in October 2022. There are a lot of hockey fans at COGconnected, so we’re all hoping for the best. NHL 23 will be released on both PlayStations and both Xboxes, but not on Switch or PC.
2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II – October 28
Yes, there is a new Call of Duty game every year. But Call of Duty: Modern Warfare rebooted itself in 2019, and is probably what most would consider the main Call of Duty series. The spinoffs get good reviews, but the Call of Duty games developed by Infinity Ward are the big ones (followed by Treyarch’s Black Ops games). Infinity Ward is promising lots of gameplay evolutions, and this doesn’t sound like a phoned in FPS with excellent graphics. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II will be available for everything except the Switch. Any other year, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II would be number one in the Top 5 Video Games Arriving in October 2022, but because fans have been waiting for our top game for a long time, we decided to give it the top spot
1. Bayonetta 3 – October 28
There were several exciting games promised at the Switch’s launch. Some of them took a really long time to release. Last year we finally got Shin Megami Tensei V, and this year, we finally get Bayonetta 3 (leaving Metroid Prime 4 as the only big-gun left). Bayonetta 3 probably won’t sell as well as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, but its fanbase has been anticipating it much longer. The two prior Bayonetta games are arguably the two best fast-paced third-person action games of all time. This is Platinum Games’ flagship franchise, and, for many, will be a Nintendo Switch console-seller. Bayonetta 3 is a Switch exclusive.
Do you agree with our choices? How should we balance sales numbers with hype and anticipation? Let us know in the comments.
