Gamescom 2020 Is Happening Online in August
Gamescom 2020 was one of many events cancelled around the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic but an online version of the showcase will still be happening. Gamescom: Opening Night Live will be hosted by Geoff Keighley, which now takes place on August 27th and it will still be kicking of the three-day event though. In total, Gamescom 2020 will run from August 27th until August 30th, with Gamescom: Best of Show closing the event. As usual, Gamescom will focus on a plethora of titles across all of the platforms and it’s part of Geoff Keighley’s recently announced Summer Game Fest.
The three day online event for Gamescom 2020 will be accompanied by a new addition known as Gamescom: Awesome Indies which will discuss announcement surrounding the newest indie titles. Gamescom Now was launched last year and it will apparently be the “first go-to source” for world premieres, announcements and other Gamescom news. For anyone who can’t watch live, Gamescom: Daily Show will show highlights and promotions from companies and partners.
Not only will Gamescom 2020 be offering several gaming announcements, but some developers will be there to talk about their upcoming titles in interviews. “This year, all our energies for Gamescom 2020 is going into digital,” said managing director Felix Falk. “In a short amount of time and working in close tandem with some of the world’s most important gaming companies on the Gamescom advisory board, we have been able to develop a powerful and focused concept for Gamescom 2020. We are anticipating surprising shows, numerous world premieres, announcements, and special promotions that will set the entire games world all abuzz about Gamescom at the end of August.”
