The recent remake of SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom has released and since then, it has gained significant traction on Steam. SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated had 15,419 concurrent Steam players within an hour after launch and has only increased in popularity since. Apparently nostalgia is a big factor in remakes from previous generations of consoles, despite how niche the titles may seem to publishers or developers. SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated is a remaster of a early 2000’s classic that’s currently available for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.
When SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated released, it gained popularity very quickly in a way that the original 2000’s title needed more time to achieve. Because it was a cult classic title on Xbox, GameCube, PS2 and Game Boy Advance, it had an existing player base that was thirsty for a remake but a large chunk of the Rehydrated community is new fans who are only now trying out one of the best SpongeBob SquarePants titles to date. Considering the title reached 15,419 concurrent Steam players within an hour after launch, we hope THQ Nordic takes note and makes more titles based on the series.
Nostalgia is a huge factor in the success of SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated, but it isn’t the only factor. Since the early 2000’s, SpongeBob has acquired even more fans and some of these people are experiencing Battle For Bikini Bottom for the first time. The title is a polished version of the 2000’s classic, but it also includes a new multiplayer mode that was cut from the original title.
