Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Beats the Competition

Smash Bros. Ultimate Becomes Best Selling Fighting Game

During their recent quarterly financial meeting, Nintendo revealed Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to be the best selling fighting game of all time. The latest Super Smash Bros. has sold over 15.71 million units sold, outselling Street Fighter 2 which was the previous record holder with 15.5 million units being sold. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has managed this accomplishment within a year of release compared to Street Fighter 2’s nearly 30 years on the market and several revisions refining the gameplay. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available exclusively for Nintendo Switch now.

With Super Smash Bros. Ultimate still having content regularly added to the game, gamers who are already part of the 15.71 million units have more things to unlock as updates bring new spirits, mii costumes and even new characters. This impressive sales landmark not only makes Ultimate the best selling fighting game of all time, but it’s also the best selling Nintendo Switch title right behind Mario Kart 8 Deluxe which has sold a staggering 19.01 million units so far. Super Mario Odyssey holds the third best selling Switch title honor at 15.38 million units sold and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild just barely misses the top three with 14.54 million units sold since the launch of the NIntendo Switch.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fans are eagerly anticipating an in-depth look at the upcoming SNK fighter Terry Bogard who’s the next character coming to the fighting franchise. The character is from the Fatal Fury series and he will be the last fighter as part of the first Fighter Pack. Though this Fighter Pack comes to a close, Nintendo has confirmed more characters are in development for the best selling fighting game of all time.
