Square Enix Hiring For Next-Gen Action Game

Square Enix First Development Division is Working on Next-Gen

According to the Square Enix Japanese recruitment site, First Development Division is working on a next-generation action game experience. The team apparently includes a diversity of  international creators from all over the world offering different skills and abilities. The title is specifically listed as a new IP for HD consoles, which we certainly hope it wouldn’t be coming to any SD consoles. First Development Division previously worked on Kingdom Hearts 3 and Romancing SaGa 3 and the team is currently working on Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Due to the fact that Final Fantasy 7 Remake is expected next year, it’s likely that title will be cross generational with the PS5 and it’s likely the last current-gen First Development Division if this job listing is anything to go by. The action of Kingdom Hearts 3 and how it’s shaping up in Final Fantasy Remake reflect a team that knows what they’re doing in the action genre so a next-generation action game sounds perfect for the team. It’s expected that the First Development Division will continue getting big budgets as this next-gen title is expected to be triple-A quality.

The listing claims that the First Development Division will take “a step forward from the existing action game framework,” which implies a type of action title we’ve never seen before. Though it’s likely just flexing, the post is setting some pretty high standards from Square Enix and First Development Division for next-generation. Because Final Fantasy 7 Remake is apparently not coming to Xbox One, we’re curious if this next-generation title can be expected on the Xbox Scarlett or not.

What do you expect to see from the new Square Enix action title? Are there any current-generation action mechanics or tropes you’d like to see them leave in this generation? Let us know in the comments below!
