To be honest, May 2023 is a bit of a lull before the monster month that June 2023 is promising to be. There are still a bunch of awesome games, including one that will likely be a Game of the Year contender. This month’s honorable mention is Age of Wonders IV, which is a turn-based strategy game that hasn’t had a series entry since 2015. The Top 5 Video Games Arriving in May 2023 are:
5. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum – May 25
A Lord of the Rings game that isn’t directly based on the Peter Jackson films is a pretty enticing concept. This game will be an original story about Gollum’s goings-on between The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings novels. Despite Lord of the Rings being a massive IP, the game’s developer, Daedalic Entertainment, hasn’t had a massive release yet, which is why The Lord of the Rings: Gollum isn’t ranked higher on The Top 5 Video Games Arriving in May 2023. Maybe this third person action adventure game will be their big break? The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be released for everything except the Switch.
4. System Shock Remake – May 30
For those who don’t know, the original System Shock from 1994, is one of the most influential PC games of all time. It’s the game that introduced heavy narrative and puzzle elements, and lessened the emphasis on combat in first person games. The developer, Nightdive Studios, have been making fantastic remasters of older first person shooters, and it’s exciting to get see what they’ll do building something from the ground, up. System Shock will be a PC exclusive for now, but PlayStation and Xbox releases are planned for the future.
