The Return of System Shock
Nightdive Studios has announced that System Shock Remake is now available on Nintendo Switch and the newly launched Nintendo Switch 2. Developed by the renowned remaster specialist and Atari subsidiary, the remake brings the legendary 1994 immersive sim to Nintendo players in a fully modernized form.
Originally released on PC in 2023 to strong critical praise and later arriving on consoles in 2024, System Shock Remake has been carefully rebuilt to preserve the spirit of the original while updating it for contemporary audiences. With this release, Nintendo players can now own the complete System Shock duology on a single platform. The Nintendo Switch version includes features such as gyro aiming and a selection of community-requested improvements. On Nintendo Switch 2, players benefit from additional enhancements, including Joy-Con 2 mouse support and improved performance, with up to 1440p resolution at 60fps when docked and 1080p at 60fps in handheld mode.
The remake blends classic gameplay systems with high definition visuals, refined controls, a redesigned interface, and newly produced sound and music. Players explore the dark and dangerous Citadel Station, facing hostile mutants, deadly machines, and the ever-present influence of SHODAN, one of gaming’s most iconic antagonists. Survival depends on careful exploration, puzzle solving, stealth, and the smart use of advanced weaponry.
Nightdive Studios collaborated closely with members of the original development team during production, including Terri Brosius, the original voice of SHODAN, to ensure authenticity. System Shock is available now for $39.99 on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 with cross-buy support for both platforms. The game is also available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox systems.
