3. Soul Hackers 2 – August 26
This game should be called Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner – Soul Hackers 2. The SMT franchise is hot right now! The Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne Remaster, and Shin Megami Tensei V both sold and reviewed very well. And Persona 5 might be the most beloved JRPG since the PS1 era. Soul Hackers 2 is the 5th game in the Devil Summoner SMT spin-off series. Soul Hackers 1 was a Japan-exclusive Sega Saturn release, but was remade for the 3DS, and released worldwide in 2012. That game went back to SMT series roots, with dungeon crawling gameplay, and a sci-fi slant to the narrative. Soul Hackers 2 will be available on everything except the Switch.
2. Saints Row – August 23
The Saints Row franchise needed a reboot after 4 games, and, surprisingly, that’s exactly what we’re getting. Saints Row: The Third shocked the world as a Grand Theft Auto clone with many unique sequences. Saints Row IV doubled-down on the wackiness, and was pretty uneven, despite the genius of the dubstep gun. Instead of adding more, Saints Row is rebuilding from the ground up, and restarting the narrative. The game was delayed from its original February 2022 date, and easily ranks in the Top 5 Video Games Arriving in August 2022. It will be available for everything except the Switch.
1. Madden NFL 23 – August 19
The Madden franchise is huge, no doubt about it. Madden NFL 23 should be especially massive because how much Madden NFL 22 was improved over previous instalments. Hopefully we get more than just roster updates. This new entry also pulls at the heartstrings a bit, because it will be the first entry in the series since John Madden’s death at the end of 2021. He will be the game’s cover star for the first time since the PS1 era. Madden NFL 23 will be available for everything except the Switch.
