The 3 Best and Worst Games From February 2018

The Worst

Payday 2 – Nintendo Switch Edition

Payday 2 has been released for years at this point and is making its debut on the Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately, it was found that the Nintendo Switch Edition was released as an older, less updated version than the other console ports and especially the PC version. While the game will get updated with time, the solo mode is monotonous, online play doesn’t work well without a headset, and the portable mode is not very good. Our review found that “if you already enjoy Payday 2 on another console, save your hard earned (or stolen) dollars and buy another game.”

Age of Empires Definitive Edition

Age of Empires Definitive Edition has smooth graphics, great audio, and features an immersive campaign. Unfortunately, the gameplay and particularly the AI programming were not up to expectation. In our review, we ultimately found that “the graphical and audio enhancements are phenomenal and huge selling points, but having a pretty game without responsive AI quickly makes those enhancements meaningless.”

Metal Gear Survive

While not an objectively bad game, Metal Gear Survive’s use of a franchise name in creating a title that bears little relation to the renowned franchise created unreasonably lofty expectations it had no business projecting. Though the game works as a survival game and the FOX Engine is still great, it is by no means a Metal Gear game. We found that it “has a crushing amount of repetition, the slimiest of microtransactions, and it whiffs on anything but tangential connection to the main Metal Gear franchise.”
