New Cosmetics Awaits in Fatal Frame II
The anticipation is finally over as a new crossover update has arrived for Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake, bringing a touch of psychological horror from Silent Hill f into the game. Publisher Koei Tecmo, alongside Team Ninja and Konami, has released a free DLC pack across PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
This collaboration introduces themed cosmetics inspired by Silent Hill f. Players can dress Mio in Shimizu Hinako’s navy sailor school uniform, while both Mio and Mayu gain access to a fox mask accessory. These additions bring a subtle but eerie new atmosphere to the remake, blending the identities of both horror franchises. Alongside the update, the developers have also made a discounted Steam bundle featuring both titles available.
The remake itself revisits one of the most celebrated entries in the Fatal Frame series, originally released in 2003. This modern version enhances the experience with upgraded visuals, including refined textures, improved lighting, and deeper shadow effects. Audio has also been significantly improved with spatial sound design, creating a more immersive and unsettling environment.
The story follows twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura as they explore the haunting Minakami Village, a place trapped in endless night. After becoming separated, Mio must search for her sister using the Camera Obscura, a mystical device capable of capturing and battling spirits. The camera system received new mechanics such as focus, zoom, filters, and powerful special shots.
The game is available now on PC, PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S, including a Digital Deluxe Edition with bonus content such as costumes, an art book, and a soundtrack.
