Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake Launched Today on PC and Consoles

Unfold the Story Once More in Fatal Frame II

KOEI TECMO America and developer Team NINJA have officially launched Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake, bringing the iconic survival horror title back with a modern overhaul. The game is now available across PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Alongside the release, the developers have also shared a new launch trailer that offers a brief look at the unsettling journey awaiting players.

This remake revisits one of the most memorable entries in the Fatal Frame series, rebuilding the experience with updated visuals and expanded content. The story once again follows twin sisters Mio and Mayu, who find themselves lost in a mysterious abandoned village cursed by lingering spirits. With danger lurking around every corner, the sisters must rely on the Camera Obscura, a supernatural camera capable of capturing and sealing hostile ghosts. The narrative unfolds through a tense, atmospheric journey filled with haunting encounters and unsettling discoveries.

The remake introduces several new additions designed to enhance the experience. Players can explore newly added locations, uncover extra side stories, and witness a brand new ending that features the song “Utsushie” performed by Tsuki Amano. These updates aim to expand the original story while maintaining the eerie tone that made the classic so memorable.

Another new feature is Photo Mode, which allows players to capture eerie moments throughout the game. Using customizable frames, stickers, and visual effects, players can create unique snapshots while exploring the haunted village and may even notice hidden supernatural details along the way.

The game will also receive a collaboration with Silent Hill f in the future, adding themed costumes as free downloadable content. Players interested in learning more about the remake can also check out our official review right here!
