Ubisoft Releasing Roller Champions Next Year
Ubisoft announced their free to play multiplayer sports title Roller Champions at E3 last year, and it is apparently set to release next year. The title was originally slated to launch later this year and it has undergone alpha testing, but it seems like Ubisoft needed more development time for Roller Champions. Ubisoft confirmed during the recent Ubisoft Forward event that the title has been pushed back a few months and they neglected to give us a specific date beyond 2021. Roller Champions will be releasing for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, and Android next year.
Roller Champions is basically a roller derby sports game with PvP elements. Two teams of three players will compete against each other in arenas from around the world to see who the true Roller Champions are. Ubisoft has confirmed that we can expect to see more from Roller Champions this October but had very little to share during the recent Ubisoft Forward. While Roller Champions has been confirmed for current-gen consoles, it’s likely that it will also release for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S given the 2021 release.
Roller Champions will be released in full next year, but it will likely have a beta or a demo for sports fans to see if the game is for them. Ubisoft is releasing a new IP with Roller Champions so it makes sense that they delayed it to properly refine it. We’re not sure what to expect from the PvP elements of the game, but we expect it won’t interfere with the overall roller derby gameplay. It’ll be interesting to see if Ubisoft will implement crossplay between all of the platforms Roller Champions is releasing for next year, but we’ll surely find out in October.
