NBA 2K Esports League Postpones Competition Due to Coronavirus
Similar to the actual NBA, NBA 2K League Managing Director Brendan Donohue has taken the precaution to postpone the current season until coronvirus is taken care of. The season was planned for March 24th but now it will be pushed back further into 2020 because of the pandemic. Many NBA 2K League gamers will continue to produce content on platforms such as YouTube and Twitch, giving the fans something to watch through the hard times. NBA 2K20 is available now on PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC, with the title being brought to Xbox Game Pass recently.
“We will continue to evaluate the situation and do everything possible to bring the excitement of the NBA 2K League to our fans through remote preseason exhibitions and other content,” said Brendan Donohue. “We look forward to sharing additional information about these exhibitions and the start of the 2020 season as it becomes available.” It’s no surprise that another big event has been canceled due to coronavirus but it is interesting to see both the NBA and NBA 2K affected so much by the pandemic.
The Phoenix Suns recently shared on Twitter that they’ll be continuing to compete for the fans through everything that’s happening, saying “The season isn’t over yet… We will continue to play the Suns season games on @NBA2K! Saturday’s game will be moved to tomorrow. Join us live on @Twitch as we take on the @dallasmavs!” We look forward to seeing how the eventtransitions to an online experience with this pandemic spreading across the world, as PUBG Mobile and Overwatch League focus on their online broadcasting.
