Capcom Updated The Platinum Games, Revealing RE2 and DMC5 Sales Data
Capcom is seeing success in the first quarter of 2019 primarily thanks to the Resident Evil 2 Remake and Devil May Cry 5. Capcom recently updated its list of Platinum games which included updated figures for these games. Capcom claims RE2 has sold 4.5 million units since its launch in January and Devil May Cry 5 has sold 2.5 million units since its release in March. On top of these existing sales, Capcom expects both titles to sell another million each by the end of the current fiscal year. Both Devil May Cry 5 and Resident Evil 2 Remake are currently released on Xbox One, PC and PS4.
Quickly catching up to the original release of Resident Evil 2, the remake is less than half a million units from selling as much as the 1998 released classic. Capcom attributes most of the recent sales of Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 to promotions such as discounts for digital versions which is why they’re confident in projecting they both sell another million this fiscal year, March 31st 2020. Should Capcom succeed in selling another million copies of both titles, Resident Evil 2 Remake will have sold around 5.5 million units and Devil May Cry 5 will have sold close to 3.5 million units.
Capcom must be happy at their digital sale success considering that’s an evolving market many shareholders are keeping an eye on lately. This success of Resident Evil 2 Remake makes us think there’s another one in the works. If you still haven’t checked out Resident Evil 2, this is our take on the remake of the cult classic 1998 original RE2. More platinum games include a majority of previous Resident Evil Titles, several Monster Hunter games and Street Fighter is obviously there.
