Festivities, I Choose You!
Niantic has pulled back the curtain on the celebrations for the world’s most popular location-based mobile game’s third birthday, and the meme-iest Pokemon is the star of July’s Community Day!
Starting tomorrow. Juune 28th at 1pm PDT (4pm EDT), trainers will have a chance of encountering Shiny Alolan Pokemon, specifically Rattata, Sandshrew, Vulpix, Diglett, Meowth, Geodude, Grimer and Exeggutor. There’ll also be new items in the Style Shop that allow trainers to bite on Team Leaders’ fashion sense.
Until July 6th, trainers will have a chance to get photobombed by a Party Hat Pikachu when taking GO Snapshots. Pikachu will also be hatching from 7 km eggs).
Additionally, all through summer until September 2nd at 1pm PDT (4pm EDT), players above level 10 will be privvy to new Special Research tasks that will provide “special rewards,” and help “jump-start their new or continuing adventures.” Trainers will also get extra premier balls during raid battles when raiding with friends, and trading Pokemon will cost 25% less stardust.
Also, July’s Community Day will star the Pokemon that everyone has heard that you like whether it’s true or not, Mudkip. The event will take place on July 21st from 4pm to 7pm in your local time zone. The bizarre time shift (from 3pm to 6pm local time) is apparently a change based on player feedback, but let’s be real, the event should just run the entire day. The insistence on a set time window is useful to nobody, not even Niantic.
Don’t forget about the upcoming Raikou raid return this Saturday, and check out the recent uncovering of a Shadow Pokemon mechanic potentially coming to the game. There was also some new info revealed about the upcoming Pokemon Masters mobile game today, and Pokemon Sword & Shield for Nintendo Switch got an official release date at E3 earlier this month. Let us know what you think in the comments!
