5 Ways to Keep No Man’s Sky a Space Stud, Not a Space Dud

5 Biggest Improvements To Keep No Man’s Sky From Becoming a Black Hole of Boredom

No Man’s Sky has not even been out for a week and it is a title heatedly discussed by both fans and critics of the galactic traversal survival game. With the staff here at COGconnected logging a serious number of hours as we leave or mark across the sky, we – along with many other fans out there – can’t help but think about what it would take to not only improve this game, but to bring the naysayers over to our side: here are five improvements we feel No Man’s Sky needs to keep the love alive and bring it more would-be explorers.

5. Ship Customization

Starships come in all shapes and sizes, being procedurally generated just like everything else. If you are looking to trade up from your beginning ship, going to a space station and offering to buy ships off of traders is a good start, assuming you are willing to stand around. The problem is when you find what you are looking for – be it the proper class, make, or extra storage slots – you just have to take it for what it is, regardless of paint job or too many/ too few fins, etc. Space stations are very large objects in space, so it shouldn’t be too much to ask to allow a few simple tweaks to your ships base model: a new coat of paint, a few body accessories to make it your own, that sort of thing. If you are going to be staring at it every time you land on a planet you want to have a sense of pride and individuality in your ship.

4. Storage Lockers

Speaking of oversized space stations with a single hangar to access, what about some purchasable storage lockers on board? Space has to be purchased to carry things on your exosuit, and we already know they have the technology to transfer items from your suit to your ship, so why not be able to store inventory on a space station and have it accessible from every station? It would follow the same basic principle in place as the starship: send objects to it but you have to be there to retrieve them. That way all of those Gek Relic’s, Vy’keen Dagger’s and Atlas Stones don’t just take up space while you try to make sure you have room for fuel and a little resources to sell. Storage has been a huge complaint from the community and – while I understand the survival concept of having the bare minimum – this game quickly evolves into needing large caches of resources, and that can be frustrating.
