But It’s Difficult to Tell With Yoko Taro
NieR has been a big hit in the last few years. NieR Automata is well known for its beautiful music and scenery, and NieR Replicatant has sold over a million copies since its release. Not to mention, there’s been the free mobile game that’s been released this year, in 2021, called NieR Re[in]carnation. There was even a watch that was released in the summer of 2021.
Whether there would be more of the NieR series has yet to be seen. Yoko Taro, along with series producer Yosuke Saito and composer Keiichi Okabe, released a video on Twitter in celebration of the holidays. During this video, when asked if there was anything that Yoko would like to do for the NieR series, he responded with “Nah, Nothing!”, but amended that he would be happy to continue the series for lots and lots of money.
However, this is best not to take those claims seriously. The team of Saito, YOKO, and Okabe have been doing the NieR series for the past 11 years, and the tone of the video was very light-hearted. YOKO had later joked, in the same tone of voice that there had been a “secret message” and those that figured it out would get half of Saito’s bank account- which was, of course, a lie, and said it clearly on the screen.
Okabe though does look forward to the day when it’s possible to meet fans overseas and be able to conduct not a Keiichi Okabe tour, as YOKO teased him about, but a NieR series World Tour. This would be a concert that would play all of the music from the series that fans adore.
YOKO TARO said it here, NieR is finished 😱

While this isn’t additional content that’s being promised, this is at least something all of us can look forward to when it becomes possible. We can only cross our fingers and hope we may be able to attend such a concert in 2022, and not 2023 or later.
