Ratchet and Clank Confirmed, Likely PS5 Launch Title
Insomniac Games joined several other developers during the recent PS5 games showcase to announce two upcoming titles; Spider-Man: Miles Morales and the latest installment in the Ratchet & Clank series, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. In the next-gen Ratchet & Clank titles, gamers will transition from world to world utilizing in-game rifts which also alter the gameplay in some interesting ways. In some cases you can explore something new and in others Ratchet is transformed into another character entirely. Ratchet & Clank is exclusively available on the PS4 and it was a soft reboot of the series that’s been around since the PS2.
In both the cinematic reveal trailer and the gameplay trailer of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, the world is cluttered with time and space-bending rifts that show off countless interesting worlds as Ratchet and Clank both hop from one rift to another. Not only does the world around the titular characters change but at one point Ratchet is replaced with a white female with a similar look and an arsenal to match. Previous rumors suggest that the upcoming Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will be a PS5 launch title but Insomniac Games have yet to confirm a specific release date for the sequel to 2016’s reboot of the franchise.
Insomniac Games creative director Marcus Smith was on the PS5 showcase to speak briefly about Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, saying the game is a “full-length interdimensional adventure.” The team at Insomniac is apparently “doing things we’ve never been able to be do before, like use dimensional rifts to be able to leap from planet to planet nearly instantly or put ray trace reflections on Clank.”Marcus Smith assures fans of the Ratchet & Clank series that Rift Apart is more exciting than ever.
