Summer Edition of Games Done Quick Postponed

COVID-19 Forces Games Done Quick to Postpone Summer Event

Summer Games Done Quick has been delayed until August due to the COVID-19 pandemic but the most recent event raised money for doctors and nurses combating the virus. The event was originally intended to take place in June but the organizers have postponed it to a tentative date of August 16th until the 23rd until further notice. The organizers recently raised over $400,000 for Corona relief and it’s likely that if the pandemic continues into the summer, they’ll continue to raise more to help put this pandemic behind us. Games Done Quick is a collective of talented gamers who can speedrun their favorite games at impressive speeds and their August event is the next scheduled showcase.

The threat of COVID-19 is cancelling big events around the world and Summer Games Done Quick is being postponed due to the uncertainty of when it will remain a threat. “Summer Games Done Quick 2020 will officially be postponed to August 16-23, 2020 in Bloomington, MN. With the event being postponed, we will be adjusting our dates accordingly,” claimed Games Done Quick organizers. “All existing game submissions will be wiped on April 26 and reopened with a fresh call for submissions. If you plan on resubmitting for SGDQ’s new August dates, you will have until April 26th to save your submission information.”

“All volunteers, including hosts, will need to reapply through Initlive so we know who is interested in volunteering during the event’s new dates,” continued the Games Done Quick statement. “Our Corona Relief Done Quick event concluded on April 19th with a total of over $400,000 for Direct Relief, as part of our response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Thank you all for your support!” With things being shifted around so much with the speedrunning organization, we hope that submissions and applications don’t get lost in the shuffle.
