Respawn Founder Drew McCoy Has Left the Building
Drew McCoy recently took to Twitter to announce that he’d be departing Respawn Entertainment after ten years with the development studio. McCoy has been part of Respawn since before the renegade Infinity Ward employees who worked on Call of Duty 4 broke off to do their own thing. Vince Zampella, McCoy and Jason West were the pioneers that took Respawn Entertainment from Titanfall to Apex Legends. Apex Legends is available for Xbox One, PC and PS4 now, with season 4 including a new Legend known as Revenant.
“Today marks the start of a new adventure for me. I will absolutely cherish the last 10 years I spent helping start Respawn and ship some awesome games alongside amazing people. I’ll miss the people the most – the daily arguments, successes, failures and everything in between.,” said Drew McCoy on his official Twitter account. “For everyone who played our games, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Not sure where I’m going yet, but rest assured I can’t stay away from games for long! Be excellent to each other.”
While we’re sad to see one of Respawn Entertainment’s founding members leave the development studio, we’re looking forward to seeing where he ends up and wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up on the Metroid Prime 4 team. Drew McCoy’s departure follows shortly after producer Christina Sanchez left the company to join God of War studio Sony Santa Monica at the end of 2019. McCoy was the lead producer on the original Titanfall before becoming a senior producer for Titanfall 2. He was also an executive producer forthe free-to-play battle royale hit, Apex Legends.
