Battlefield and EA’s Ambitious Plans for the Franchise

CEO Andrew Wilson Reveals the Largest Team in Battlefield History

In a bold move signaling EA’s commitment to the Battlefield franchise, CEO Andrew Wilson recently announced that the development team behind the iconic FPS series is now the largest in its history.

During EA’s financial report for the end of fiscal year 2024, Wilson discussed the future of Battlefield, emphasizing the company’s dedication to delivering an exceptional gaming experience. “Our teams have listened to the community, have learned valuable lessons, and are driving to the future,” Wilson stated. He highlighted Motive Studios, armed with advanced Frostbite technology and a focus on immersive storytelling, joining forces with DICE, Criterion, and Ripple Effect to shape the expansive Battlefield universe across interconnected multiplayer and single-player adventures.

Motive Studios, known for their work on 2023’s Dead Space, was revealed last month to be taking the helm of the Battlefield franchise. Led by developers with experience in crafting compelling narratives, Motive will oversee the development of the next Battlefield title alongside continuing their work on the single-player Iron Man game.

Additionally, Criterion, renowned for their contributions to the Need for Speed series, is lending its expertise to the development of the upcoming Battlefield installment. Despite their involvement, Criterion remains committed to developing a new entry in the racing franchise. This collaborative effort aims to deliver a groundbreaking gaming experience that pushes the boundaries of the Battlefield universe.

The upcoming installment of the Battlefield franchise, tentatively scheduled for release in 2025, is shrouded in mystery regarding its official title. However, what is certain is that this new entry promises to be a bold “reimagination” of the beloved franchise, aiming to redefine the first-person shooter genre with innovative gameplay mechanics, stunning visuals, and immersive storytelling.

One of the most exciting aspects of the upcoming Battlefield game is the development of a free-to-play battle royale mode by Ripple Effect Studios, formerly known as DICE LA. This standalone experience is set to offer a fresh take on the battle royale genre, leveraging the Battlefield franchise’s signature elements such as large-scale maps, dynamic environments, and vehicular combat to deliver an exhilarating gameplay experience for both newcomers and veteran players alike.
