The Splatoon Twitter Adds an SOS to Their 2020 Greeting
Despite the fact that Hisashi Nogami has gone on record saying that Splatoon 3 isn’t being developed, the Splatoon Twitter account seems to have teased something for 2020. As part of the seasons greetings for the New Year, the Twitter account included an SOS in the reflection of an illuminated 2020. The numbers are seemingly floating above water while the reflection spells SOS due to a lifesaver and flag blocking the second 0 in 2020. We aren’t sure whether this Tweet is teasing an event or DLC for Splatoon 2 or whether it’s a whole new project but apparently Splatoon fans have something to look forward to in 2020. Splatoon 2 is a unique Nintendo Switch exclusive shooter that’s available now.
Traditionally SOS means “Save Our Souls” and was originally used in Morse code for maritime matters such as a capsized ship sinking in the vast expanse of ocean. Though Splatoon isn’t known for having vast oceans, the colourful ink used to dominate maps is often traversed in squid form. Although the SOS may mean nothing at all, we expect to see something Splatoon related during 2020. Though a sequel isn’t expected, we’re thinking a sizable expansion for the game could bring back lapsed fans and potentially bring in some new Inklings to the battlefield.
The original tweet from the Splatoon Japan Twitter account can be found here and it raises many questions and speculation. Roughly translated, the tweet says: “How are you all? Some may be leisurely rest, while others may be busy. It seems that Kumasan Shokai is also looking for a part-time job early on New Year’s Day. I hope you come to Shibaki at the beginning of the new year. Thank you again this year.”
