The PS5 Is the Easiest PlayStation to Code For

Jim Ryan Says Developers Delight in Coding for PS5

According to PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan during a recent interview, the PS5 is the easiest PlayStation to code for and developers are enthused by the next-gen console. After the PS3 was a difficult platform to code for, PlayStation focused on making the PS4 easier to develop for and the PS5 will be continuing that trend. The PlayStation 5 has a custom AMD Zen 2 processor which will be a key aspect of making the console easy to code for. The PS5 releases during the Holiday season 2020, though it has no official release date.

“One thing that makes me particularly optimistic that what we’re hearing from developers and publishers, is the ease in which they are able to get code running on PlayStation 5 is way beyond any experience they’ve had on any other PlayStation platform,” said Jim Ryan. Apparently PlayStation is keeping in close contact with developers who are coding for the PS5 devkit and they like what they’re hearing. We hope that the PlayStation 5 continues the trend of focusing on accessibility like the PS4 and that they don’t return to difficult systems like the PS3.

Beyond the custom AMD Zen 2 processor, we’re looking forward to seeing how developers capitalize on the Solid State drives which replaces the typical hard disc drives as PlayStation has given us a taste of the load times we can expect. Several developers are working on next-gen, including Ubisoft, Bethesda, Activision and Blizzard. Sony Interactive Entertainment exclusives such as The Last of Us II and Ghost of Tsushima have had their release dates pushed back to release for the PS5 as well as the PS4 and we’re looking forward to seeing what other titles are cross-generational.

Developers might not always like PlayStation but which of their consoles is your favorite to play? The company wants a console that’s easier to code for, but how can PlayStation improve the experience from PS4 to next-gen? Let us know in the comments below!
