Coaches Are Important in NHL 20

A Recent Trailer Shows the Role Coaches Will Play in NHL 20

Coaches will play a more substantial role than previous NHL titles in NHL 20, where they have stats similar to the players. Franchise mode recently got a new trailer illustrating the new changes made to this year’s installment of NHL’s franchise mode. Coaches will have offence and defense stats and can influence the players growth. The coaches will have their on unique ratings and type, including former hockey players-turned-coaches, deepening the NHL experience.

NHL 20 coaches

Each coach has a specialty that can affect the gameplay by focusing on specific player types, forcing gamers to change their gameplay. Having high influence will help raise the entire staff up more quickly, which suggests that it’s more complex than just avoiding the coaches you don’t like. Coaches on AI teams may be fired and replaced mid-season if they aren’t getting the job done and retired players become coaches to add more dynamics to the gameplay.

The franchise mode coaches will apparently add a lot of depth to the strategy of playing through a season of hockey, just like in real life. We wonder if EA will take the next step and have fans heckling coaches when they disagree with their judgement on plays. Coaches will perform interviews, giving gamers an idea of what their strengths and weaknesses are. We just imagine the LA Noire “doubt” option floating around a coach during their interview as the gamer tries to gauge their specialty. A good coach can make or break a team and it’ll be interesting to see if NHL 20 franchise mode is successful at emphasizing this.
