FC 27 Gameplay and Career Mode
FC 27 aims to expand on its gameplay to deliver an experience that is a compelling representation of its real-life counterpart. Working with the community, the developer is actively working with players to improve key aspects of the game.
Players have stronger attacking spatial awareness, being decisive with runs to make attacks faster and more dynamic. Rather than manually triggering runs, the improved AI will instinctively dart in the required direction to create chances. Smaller runs can also be triggered with the new Pass & Follow, which initiates under or overlaps, adding more intricate movement and attacking opportunities. They can also shift direction and curve their run, creating new passing lanes. The AI has also been improved, with players being more aware of being offside, adapting to remain onside more often.
Down to You
AI aspects have also been altered for defensive play. Auto tackles and AI pressure have been reduced, now relying on the player to manually activate features. This focus on player control is further cemented with improved manual tackles and interceptions. All of these aspects aim to place skill at the forefront of the experience.
Fluidity is a key component of football. In FC 26, there was a slight slowdown when running from a pass or quickly turning; this has now been resolved, which could make a huge difference with attacking play.
Corners also appear to have been developed with a risk/reward mechanic where you are able to be much more creative during these set pieces. Assists on crosses will also heighten the importance of power, accuracy and skill, making getting the end of these balls much more rewarding. All of these aspects improve the realism, giving players who prefer the Authentic Mode a true simulator of the sport.
A Career Highlight
The Career Mode has been tweaked and developed over the years, but FC 27 aims to deliver its best iteration to date in the latest release. Transfers are a key aspect of management. Knowing who to buy and sell is important when overhauling a team. EA Sports introduces a partnership with TransferRoom to replicate the real-life process. With this data, you can now use it to form an opinion on how much to offer and more.
Negotiations have also been improved with a system that is closer to professional clubs. Everything has been streamlined, with tedious cutscenes being removed and replaced with clear negotiation information. Drama has also been added, with rival teams having the opportunity to hijack deals and much more. After unveiling your signing, you’ll see social media responses, giving you an insight into what fans think of your deal.
Dynamic OVR has been introduced, marking a significant change for the mode. This means a player’s OVR can alter depending on form, morale and more, forcing you to alter your team to ensure you get the best out of each player. This is a huge improvement, making squad rotation a pivotal part of success.
Get in Position!
Player positioning has also been altered. Each player has several roles that they can play, with their OVR altering depending on how you would play in the spot on the pitch. With a primary role and six secondaries, there are options for positioning, but you can no longer shoehorn your highest-rated players into one squad without being penalised.
More events are also being introduced to make the career mode more dynamic. From financial crises, player fallouts and more, this makes for an unpredictable experience which makes you consider and react to the range of situations that occur.
Career Challenges was a great addition to FC 26, but this year takes the notion a step further, allowing players to create bespoke challenges that can be shared online. This opens a range of possibilities to create some truly exciting career opportunities.
