3 Up, 3 Down – May 2018 Edition
As May 2018 has wrapped up, we take a look back at three of the best and worst games of the month as experienced by us here at COGconnected. Just one month ahead of E3 2018, big releases are beginning to thin out as the summer months approach, but we still have heavy hitters among us. While April 2018 brought us the likes of God of War and Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, May 2018 is headlined by Detroit: Become Human.

From Quantic Dream, the developers behind Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls, comes the latest interactive adventure title Detroit: Become Human. This choice-based narrative puts you behind the perspectives of three androids in very different roles. The choices you make in the game have dire consequences and players will feel in control of their own destinies. In our review, we found that “Quantic Dream absolutely nails what it means to bring the world of a video game to life.”
Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire

The sequel to 2015’s Pillars of Eternity, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire takes the lessons learned from the first title and improved on nearly every aspect. With exceptional writing and voice acting, engrossing sidequests, and a vibrant and detailed setting, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire is one of our highest scored games of the month. Despite a somewhat weaker main plotline, we found that “Pillars of Eternity II feels like a living, breathing, complex world.”
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux

If you thought the Nintendo 3DS would run out of solid releases since the launch of the Nintendo Switch, Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux is here to prove you wrong. The title is an enhanced port/remaster of the original Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, with new content and a handful of enhancements. In our review, we found that “the game has aged well in terms of story, gameplay, and overall mechanics that allows new players to experience an immensely unique title for the 3DS.”
