Top Video Games Arriving in December 2021

The biggest video game release months of the year have now passed us by, but that doesn’t mean publishers don’t want to squeak in a few major releases before Christmas. The second biggest release of December is the Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker expansion, but we already covered that in our Top 5 Video Games Arriving in November 2021 article, as it was pushed back to December at the last second. Our top runner-up of the month comes in the form of Chorus, a space shooter coming out for all consoles, developed by Fishlabs, who until now have primarily released mobile games. The final title not making our Top 5, Advance Wars 1 + 2 Re-Boot Camp, was pushed back from December 3, into Spring 2022, which this writer didn’t realize until writing this article.

All that being said, let’s move on to the Top 5 Video Games Arriving in December 2021:

5. Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX – December 9

Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX is a Switch and PC release of two PS1 JRPG classics. The Monster Rancher series was created in the wake of the late 90s Pokemon mega-boom, and had the unique gimmick of replacing the game CD with music CDs, which all had monsters coded onto them. Seriously every music album I owned had a different monster on it (my Spawn movie soundtrack had a super rare one that was in high demand). Monster Rancher is more about raising and battling monsters, rather than adventuring, but fans of the original games and TV series are going to be very curious to see how the Switch handles the monster generating mechanic, without CD support.

4. Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth – December 16

Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth is one of the most acclaimed 2D Metroidvania games of the last few years. It’s finally making its way to PlayStation consoles and Switch in December. While seemingly a digital-only release, English language region-free physical copies are being released in Asia. Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth is based on the Record of Lodoss War franchise, the original anime being one of my favorite series from the early 90s.
