Man of Medan
The newest title on our list also happens to be the one with what I believe to be, the most potential out of any recent horror series. The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan, is the first in what is supposed to be an eight-part series. Similar to Until Dawn (it’s made by the same developer), Man of Medan is a story-driven game that tasks the player with making difficult decisions on the fly that will have significant consequences later on. The real selling point with this one, though, are the ways you can enjoy this with friends. ‘Movie Night’ mode will have you and four others each making decisions for different characters, and the “Shared Story” mode allows you to play the entire game online with one other person.
Resident Evil 7
If you haven’t had a chance to meet the Baker family yet, now is the time. Released in early 2017, Resident Evil 7 managed to get the meandering series back on its feet after years of mediocre games. Your character, Ethan, will be subjected to unfathomable horrors as you explore the farmhouse of the psychotic Bakers, trying to find your wife while also attempting to figure out what went wrong with these people. Be careful down there.
Resident Evil 2
We just couldn’t have made this list without ending with the best survival horror experience on the system. Resident Evil 2 manages to remain faithful to the original, all the while improving every aspect of the game. More terrifying than ever is your relentless pursuer, the “Tyrant”, who will chase you down nearly every step of the way. Featuring gorgeous visuals and top-notch sound design, Resident Evil 2 is an absolutely cannot miss title for horror fans and video game fans in general.
