Outlast
Stripping the player of traditional weapons and items, Outlast is in a class of its own. This is a game based around the concept of avoiding the enemy while utilizing a small camcorder as your only means of sight. Once you’ve been spotted, however, some of the most hair-raising moments you’ll find on the PS4 involve you running away from your ‘pursuer.’ Truly a dark, disturbing game that will have you on the edge of your seat, Outlast is not for the faint of heart.
The Evil Within 2
A survival horror game where you take on the role of Sebastian Castellanos, a detective tasked with rescuing his own daughter. Throughout the game, you’ll make use of various resources to aid in combat, defence, or exploration, and you’ll need all the help you can get as the monsters you’ll come across are genuinely terrifying. This is a sequel to the 2014 original, so if you haven’t played that, you’ll want to start there, but The Evil Within series is one of the best for PS4 horror experiences.
Until Dawn
Until Dawn is a classic that will surely have everyone jumping out of their seats. Taking inspiration from classic films such as Evil Dead 2 and Poltergeist, as well as some of the greatest horror games in history, like Silent Hill 2, Until Dawn delivers a compelling narrative experience that utilizes the “Butterfly Effect” to ensure that choices made throughout the game will have lasting consequences. Starring a tour de force of acting talent behind it, megastars Rami Malek, Hayden Panettiere, and Peter Stormare (to name a few) have been cast, and they really drive home the director’s vision.
Dying Light
The most exhilarating experience on this list, Dying Light will chew you up, spit you out, and then demand you come back for more. Throughout your time with the game, you’ll master various parkour skills to better navigate a decaying city covered in filth, debris, and zombies. Weapon crafting plays a big part in how you’ll deal with the various threats, but more importantly, you can call on up to three friends to come to help you survive this unforgiving world.
