The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from October 2022

The Bad

The Last Oricru

The Last Oricru scored a 60/100, and is the highest scoring game on the bottom end of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from October 2022. It’s a good game, but is lost in a sea of Dark Souls rip-offs. It tries to be a parody of Souls games at times, but lacks their quality and originality. Its strengths are its story and level design, but its clunky combat brings it down. As does its lack of polish. Our reviewer concluded “Only rabid Soulsborne fans who have to play every game in the genre should check this one out.” That being said, there are a lot of Souls fans out there.

NHL 23

NHL 23 is lazy. It looks and sounds amazing. But it doesn’t feel like hockey. There is no innovation in the gameplay. There isn’t any innovation in the season mode either. Lots of the new moves aren’t helpful, and are too complicated to use comfortably. EA promised massive gameplay improvements. They lied. But they did make the prettiest hockey game ever. Our review proclaimed “I’m not sure if I should be disappointed, frustrated, or flat-out sick from EA Sport’s NHL franchise.” Now that NHL looks the best its ever looked, it time to make it fun to play.

Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher

The Monster Rancher series is a fun curiosity. Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher adds an Ultraman theme, but really doesn’t change much from the original PS1 titles. They don’t have a lot of depth, and would be great budget titles, but Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher has a high price. Our reviewer concluded that Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher “is a shallow, repetitive game, and one that I’d imagine 95% of people who play it will only spend a small amount of time with.” It’s a game for Monster Rancher and Ultraman fans only.
