The Three Best and Worst Games of January 2021

The Worst

Gods Will Fall

*** Read our review here ***

Gods Will Fall is a dark fantasy action-adventure game with roguelike elements. In this game, you are provided with a cast of 8 characters who must destroy their gods who have been poisoned by the lust of power. Unfortunately, a frustrating lives system, clunky combat, and unfair elements hold the game back. In our review, we found that “the strange combat rhythms and the extra-permanent death system are a bridge too far.”

Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game Complete Edition

As one of the higher-profile releases (re-releases?) of January 2021, eyes were on Scott Pilgrim vs The World. Despite its cult classic status, our review found that the memory of the game outperformed the game itself. Specifically, the game was found to have slow character movement, hit detection issues, and that the genre has moved on to newer and better.

Sense: A Cyberpunk Ghost Story

*** Read our review here ***

Sense: A Cyberpunk Ghost Story is a creepy, 2.5D side-scrolling adventure game set in a futuristic Neo Hong Kong. The game features Chinese folklore and Cyberpunk themes, and on paper, this seems like a recipe for success. Unfortunately for the game, poor combat and noticeable frame rate drops are two cardinal sins in games. In our review, we stated that “there definitely needs to be some more optimization on the Nintendo Switch to remedy the frame rate drops.”
