The Bad

Claustrophobia

The word “dull” came up a lot in our review of Claustrophobia. It’s a first-person survival horror game so bland, that it looks procedurally generated. The beginning of the game features poorly spaced autosaves, and requires starting from square one over and over. Monster AI only detects the player if they’re in front of it (which makes strolling by a monster’s side delightful). The audio is laughably cheesy and only aiming for jump scares. Our reviewer wrote “I’d love to report that Claustrophobia shines in at least one area. Sadly, I can’t.” Claustrophobia is unscary, and feels unfinished, making it a must in our Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from February 2022.

CrossfireX

CrossfireX is a low-priced first-person shooter, where the player gets what they pay for. It features two 3-hour single player campaigns, and a buggy multiplayer experience. Controller implementation is non-standard. The game lacks a variety in maps and modes, and is full of microtransactions. Our reviewer wrote “it’s hard to recall a less ambitious multiplayer shooter than CrossfireX”. Just skip it and get a classic FPS on sale instead.

The Waylanders

Poor Mark. He wanted to like The Waylanders so much. It has a very appealing Celtic theme, and a colorful art style. Unfortunately, the environments were bland. The CRPG combat is also bland, and unsatisfying. Controller implementation is awkward and unintuitive. Our reviewer (Mark, for the third lemon out of three) wrote that The Waylanders is “absolutely infested with bugs, placeholder text, control issues, camera problems, and more”. It just isn’t a finished game, and even if it was, all it really has going for it is its story.
