The Bad
Chimeraland

Chimeraland is a free-to-play budget ripoff of games like ARK and Monster Hunter. It has terrible performance, graphics, and sound. There isn’t much of a narrative either. There is a Shin Megami Tensei-like use of monsters from real mythologies from around the world. Games rarely feature lion/ goat/ snake chimeras anymore! Our reviewer wrote “I’ve played dozens of survival action games and MMORPGs but Chimeraland rests on one of the lowest rungs of the ladder.” Even genre enthusiasts should steer clear of this one.
Tyrant’s Blessing

COGconnected gave Tyrant’s Blessing a 65/100. It’s a good game, but still in the bottom of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from August 2022. It’s a turn-based strategy RPG, and its only fault is lacking innovation. It does nothing original, but does everything well. Maybe the only other flaw is that it doesn’t evolve much over time. It’s gameplay loop becomes very apparent after a few hours. Our reviewer noted that “bite-sized games are always appreciated, and Tyrant’s Blessing does a good job both with individual levels and run-to-run gameplay”. So, in this case, genre enthusiasts should check this one out.
Way of the Hunter

Way of the Hunter is a hunting sim. Most successful hunting games have had an arcadey feel, and Way of the Hunter is an attempt to bring a reality to those games. But that meant it added all the waiting and boring aspects of hunting. Playing it is a chore. It does teach the player a lot about hunting, ethics, biology, etc. At first the game seemed like a unique experience. Our reviewer “was very quickly disenfranchised with the shoddy mechanics and the needlessly difficult gameplay.” Although Way of the Hunter is a noble experiment, games still have to be fun to play. Way of the Hunter is not.
