The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from April 2022

The Bad

Liberated: Enhanced Edition

Liberated: Enhanced Edition is a unique noir-ish story, visually presented as a comic book. Cutscenes and gameplay take place withing comic book panels, similarly to the Sega Genesis classic Comix Zone. Unfortunately, story and presentation are all Liberated: Enhanced Edition has going for it. The gameplay is simple to the point of being unfun, and the gameplay graphics are PS2 caliber. Our reviewer concluded that Liberated: Enhanced Edition “fails to deliver on a promising premise”. Hopefully a sequel will allow the developers to realize their vision with some interesting gameplay.

Postal 4: No Regerts

Postal 4: No Regerts is a first-person shooter full of shameless gross-out gags. Its humor is hit and miss, but that isn’t the problem with Postal 4. The main issue, like the prior game in the series, is that it’s essentially unfinished. It’s buggy, crashes all the time, has poor controls, and has a clunky interface. Everything about it seems lazy, including the story copied from Postal 2. Our reviewer’s critique had to start with “assuming you can get it to run”, which is just plain awful. You can’t play what you can’t start.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Although Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was well-liked when originally released in 2008, its motion controls and quicktime events have not aged well. This remaster is based on the Wii version, which featured motion controls, but it is highly recommended that you avoid them. Quicktime events can be used to good effect in modern games, but Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was from the height of quicktime usage. The game features them all the time. Some of the Force powers are fun to use, but that’s really all the game has going for it. Our reviewer felt that “revisiting this chapter of gaming’s history was downright unpleasant at times”. Star Wars fans should stick to last month’s Lego Star Wars game.
