3 Up, 3 Down – February 2024
February was a great month for video game releases. There were several games that scored around the 90 mark that didn’t make The Good section of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from February 2024. Our Bad section even has a game that scored 65, which isn’t bad at all. There were also a couple of surprise hits, which you can read about in our Good section. Without further ado, here are The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from February 2024:
The Good
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is a Western action RPG from the developers of Life Is Strange and Vampyr. It’s a story about ghost hunters in the late 1600s. The narrative is really strong, and features lots of difficult decisions for the player to make. Our reviewer criticized “The game starts off strong, but a bit of the allure wears off over time as you peek behind the curtains of the various systems”. But, ultimately, the narrative and aesthetics overpowered any immersion breaking the gameplay offered. Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is one of the surprise hits on our The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from February 2024.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Square-Enix nailed it with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. It’s an improvement over its predecessor in almost every way. The open world is a joy to explore, and is packed with odd sidequests. The combat is tweaked to make every character fun to use. And the narrative is as emotional and gripping as one could hope. Our reviewer concluded “The game is less than perfect, but not by much. If you’ve been hotly anticipating this release, you were right to do so.” Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is an action JRPG for the ages!
Helldivers 2

Helldivers 2 is the other surprise mega hit on our The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from February 2024. It’s a fantastic shooter that takes place 100 years after the original. It’s extremely difficult, and players will likely have the most fun playing with other experienced teammates. There have been lots of server issues, and it can be difficult getting in a game right now. But as our reviewer noted “when it works, it is tremendous”. The gameplay loop is near perfect.
