The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from February 2024

The Bad

Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash

Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash is a 3D arena fighter that follows the story of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime. It’s an okay arena fighter, but doesn’t have enough content to justify its price tag. Because the story is just a summarizing of the anime, it’s not the best way to experience the story, and will likely only be for fans of the source material. Our reviewer concluded “A very short story mode, no 1v1 matches, poor design choices, and an overall lack of polish more often than not overshadow some occasionally fun combat”. Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash is an obvious choice for The Bad section of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from February 2024.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is easily the biggest disappointment of 2024 so far. Its developer, Rocksteady, created one of the most influential third person combat systems ever in Batman: Arkham Asylum, but their attempt at a shooter is just plain bland. The only positives are the excellent cutscenes and narrative. Our reviewer concluded “the endlessly unambitious gameplay loop grates on me like nails on a chalkboard. Envisioning this as a live-service game with years of life ahead of it is impossible”. Games have to be fun to play, and massive disappointments like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League end up in The bad section of our Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from February 2024.

War Hospital

War Hospital isn’t a bad game. It scored 65/100. But because February was such an excellent month, War Hospital ended up in The Bad section of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from February 2024. It does a great job of creating its World War I setting. War Hospital is a strategy game involving rescuing and healing soldiers. Its muddy setting is pretty unfun though. And its biggest problem is that its gameplay loop gets repetitive way too quickly. Our reviewer advised “another way to look at War Hospital… is as some sort of RPG/visual novel. I think this change would actually benefit the themes of the story”. But if the concept appeals, give War Hospital a try.
