Development Ends for Splitgate, Devs Announce Plans For New Game

See You on the Other Side

Developer 1047 Games has some bittersweet news. They are ending “feature development” for their game Splitgate. The game was released on PC in 2019 and came to consoles just a year ago. Remember when the game was so popular that the developers were forced to delay the console release? It’s crazy to think that the same game has reached the end of its lifecycle.

Not all the news is bad though. 1047 Games does have plans for other things. In their announcement earlier today, they say that their focus is shifting from Splitgate to a new game. This new title will be set in the same universe, be a first-person shooter, use portals, and be free-to-play.

Splitgate

That description sounds a lot like Splitgate as it is, so what is making them go down this path? Their plans for the next game is to be “revolutionary, not evolutionary”. That is a pretty tall order to meet.

For their first game, this was a pretty big success. Minor support and bug fixes will continue, but the developer’s major focus will be on their new game from here on out. Their next battle pass is launching on September 15th and as a thank you to the community, it will be free to all players.

It will be interesting to see how 1047 Games learns from this and grows. Splitgate is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
