5. Tactical Rifle – M16
Another deadly assault rifle at mid-range and long-range, the M16 is a powerful beast comparable to the AUG due to its 3-round burst design. While the AUG has a shorter burst delay than the M16, the stats are basically the same. Choosing between the two tactical rifles ultimately comes down to personal preference, but I found the AUG felt lighter and more versatile in different scenarios. The M16 has great iron sights, but I still recommend something like the SUSAT Multizoom for long-range gunfights. The SOCOM Eliminator continues to be one of the best Muzzles to put on this gun, while the STANAG 54 Round magazine will keep your enemies at an appropriate distance.
4. Assault Rifle – XM4
Personally, the XM4 is what I see myself getting slaughtered by the most in Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War. The XM4 is the first assault rifle this generation of Call of Duty fans gets their hands on and it’s likely this reason I’m seeing it so much on the battlefield in countless variations. It might have different attachments, it might look a lot different thanks to the camo on the gun, but this gun haunts my Call of Duty nightmares right now. I find the best XM4’s include a scope of some sort, typically Hawksmoor or the Sillix Holoscout combined with the SOCOM Eliminator and SASR Jungle Grip. It may be a pretty average AR at level one, but the XM4 becomes a bit of a beast as you grind out kills.
3. Tactical Rifle – AUG
Just like several other weapons on this list, the AUG is familiar to any Call of Duty fan. While it has undergone many changes from one game to another, most recently being classified as an SMG in last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. This year, the AUG is a Tactical Rifle and an extremely deadly one at that. Just like the MP5, the AUG is concerned one of the most broken games in Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, but it’s due to its versatility at long-range and mid-range rather than mid-range and short-range. The AUG is made even more powerful with the SOCOM Eliminator Muzzle, 19.8” Task Force barrel, and the Field Agent Foregrip to help mitigate any kickback at long range.
2. Assault Rife – AK-47
Just as it was in the beta ahead of the release of Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, the AK-47 remains one of the best AR’s to bring to the Cold War era battlefields which is fitting considering this weapon has become popularized even more since the time period this latest Call of Duty installment is set in. Like the MP5, the AK-47 provides some pretty good basic iron sights, but you’ll definitely need a grip to mitigate some of the kickback from the powerful rounds being fired. I find the GRU 5MW Laser Sight is a great choice to increase the potential range profile of this assault rifle, and fully round it out with the Bakelite 50 round magazine.
1. Submachine Gun – MP5
The MP5 is currently among the top weapons in Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War to be called broken because of its high fire rate and success in both mid-range and short-range firefights. Just like any other weapon in Black Ops: Cold War, the MP5 is made even deadlier with attachments, and you’re definitely going to want to use a grip and muzzle on this small but deadly weapon that continues to dominate in Call of Duty games. While there are attachments that are ideal for this SMG, it’s already God tier without them.
