Todd Howard Doesn’t Think ES6 Will Be an Exclusive
During a recent interview director and executive producer at Bethesda Game Studios, Todd Howard claimed that it’s hard to imagine seeing The Elder Scrolls 6 as an Xbox exclusive title. Howard remains confident in the new role Bethesda has with Microsoft but also doesn’t think it will result in The Elder Scrolls series getting locked behind exclusivity. The Elder Scrolls Online is available right now for Xbox One, PS4, Google Stadia, Mac, PC, and it’s available through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
“If you look at every Elder Scrolls game, there has been some exclusivity on Xbox or with Microsoft. We’ve partnered with every game,” said Todd Howard. “Morrowind was basically a console exclusive, Oblivion was a long timed exclusive, Skyrim’s DLC was exclusive for a long period of time. We’ll decide what makes the best sense for our audience when the time comes, and I can’t really project today what that looks like.” This might make some fans worry that Microsoft will be getting some sort of exclusivity thanks to their recent acquisition of ZeniMax Media, Bethesda’s parent company, but that may not be the case.
When Todd Howard was told it would be hard to imagine seeing The Elder Scrolls locked behind exclusivity to Xbox/PC, Todd Howard echoed the sentiment stating, “I would agree that is hard to imagine… All of the games I’ve done we’ve partnered with Microsoft in some way. So as we come to Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6, I guess this is partnering in a bigger way.”
“We felt very strongly about their view of access,” continued Todd Howard. “Games for everybody that we can bring to anybody regardless of where they are, what devices they’re playing on. We’re very, very passionate about that, and at the end of the day we’re convinced we’ll make better products and get them to more people easily by being part of Xbox as opposed to being just a third party.”
