October’s PS Plus Freebies and Games With Gold Revealed
Microsoft and PlayStation have officially revealed what the freebies of October for their online subscription services will be, and there are some big titles on the list. PlayStation fans will get their hands on Vampyr and Need for Speed Payback, while Xbox gamers will get Slayaway Camp: Butcher’s Cut, Maid of Sker, Costume Quest, and Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy. Both services are clearly gearing up to celebrate October’s primary holiday: Halloween. PS Plus is available right now at $10 per month, while Xbox Game Pass Ultimate includes Xbox Live with access to Game Pass for $15 per month.
PlayStation has two big titles releasing for free on PS Plus in October, with one offering a spooky glimpse into the realm of vampires and the other is one of the newer Need for Speed titles. Dontnod Entertainment are the developers behind Vampyr, an action-RPG set in 1918 that puts you in the flesh of a vampire with a thirst for blood or a city saving vigilante depending on your choices. Need for Speed Payback is an action-heavy racing game set in the open-world but fictional Fortune Valley.
Xbox gamers will get more Halloween-inspired freebies in October, with each title on offer featuring one trope of the holiday or another. Slayaway Camp: Butcher’s Cut is like an 80s slasher film that pits you as the villain, Maid of Sker is based on Welsh folklore and it’s about utilizing stealth tactics in order to stay alive against a cult of sound-based enemies. Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy brings the Mummy to Games With Gold for Halloween, playing as Sphinx in order to thwart the evil Set, Costume Quest is a great party game that allows you to choose between multiple Halloween themed characters.
