Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Has Less Focused on Side Quests
The narrative director for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Darby McDevitt, recently confirmed that Valhalla won’t include that many side quests. In most cases world events will take the place of side quests in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and traditional side quests are nearly non-existent. There are longer story arcs to complete as part of the main questline that branch off like side quests do, but extra activities will happen more spontaneously and won’t necessarily be quests. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be releasing for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5, PC and Google Stadia this Holiday season.
The story of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla focuses on a protagonist Eivor arrives in England as an invader rather than a native and this changed how Ubisoft wanted to approach how side quests work. Rather than picking up quests from specific NPCs, the world events will happen more naturally despite offering a lot of gameplay elements traditionally accepted from quest givers. The Ubisoft team behind Assassin’s Creed Valhalla felt like having several quests available in an area that the protagonist is invading would feel unnatural and decided world events are a better approach.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla recently had a change in its development team, so some changes can be made to the quest system still, but it seems like they’re moving away from the NPC exclamation point system familiar to fans of open world games. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is being offered for free to PC gamers who upgrade their CPU to qualifying AMD Ryzen CPU, so some AC fans will be able to snag this year’s big game.
